Membership renewals 2019

It’s that wonderful time of year again (and no, I’m not talking about Christmas): your annual renewal for EAST swimming club!

For those who were unable to attend the AGM last month, we discussed the need to increase fees for 2019 to account for the extra pool time we gained this year (plus other small cost increases). This will be the first time training fees have risen in several years, and we hope you will agree that it still offers good value for money for coach-led sessions. For 2019, our monthly training fees will rise by £2.50 to:

  • £27.50 for a maximum of 2 sessions per week, or;
  • £37.50 for unlimited sessions

The lowest fees still offer at least 8 sessions per month (subject to pool availability), which works out at £3.43 per hour (even less if you attend a 2-hour Sunday set!). Per-swim vouchers remain the same at £7.50 (vouchers must be bought in books of 8 for £60, or 10 for £75. A maximum of 12 vouchers may be used per swimmer per year).

Existing members: Please remember to update your standing order payment from January to account for the increased fees.

The annual membership fees rise slightly, due to a £5 increase towards pool hire and other costs – as Josie explained in her recent email – plus a small increase in Swim England costs. The annual membership will therefore be as follows:

  • Category 1 (non-competitive):   £50.50 (£35 EAST membership, £15.50 Swim England fees)
  • Category 2 (competitive):             £68.05 (£35 EAST membership, £33.05 Swim England fees)
  • Category 0 (other main club):      £35.00   (Swim England fees will have been paid via your main club).

To renew for 2019, please download and complete the attached form below and email it to me,, as soon as possible. We need to submit our renewals to Swim England by end of February 2019. I will send a reminder next month to all those who haven’t responded, but any members whose forms are not received by the 17th February I will assume to be not renewing and your membership will lapse. If you don’t plan to renew, please let me know via the above email address and I won’t chase you for your form.

On behalf of the committee, we hope you have enjoyed training with us in 2018 and look forward to seeing you back in the pool in 2019.

EAST Membership Secretary

Changes to uea saturday swimming schedule 2019

Some early notification on changes to the regular Saturday morning swimming sessions at the UEA on the following dates:

11th May 2019 – No swimming (Norfolk Masters gala)

13th July 2019 – 25m mode swimming only

The above are only the changes that we know about at the moment. Other changes/cancellations are bound to occur throughout the year as the pool is regularly used for meets/galas. These will be added to this list when they have been confirmed.

European Masters Championships 2018

Four intrepid EASTie explorers ventured out to Kranj in Slovenia to compete in the European Masters Championships.

Debbie Matless swam in the 50 Fly, 100 Fly and 100 Free, medalling in all of her events. Her 100 Fly was an epic encounter, missing out on gold by 0.09 seconds.

Natalie Allen swam in the 200 Free, 400 Free and 200 Back. Posting good times throughout and a notable blistering 1st 50 in her 200 Back and several encounters with the lane ropes (I mean come on, who would organise a back stroke event out doors!)

David Borthwick had 2 seasons bests in his 200 Free and 200 IM and an epic  disaster in his 400 Free a full 9 seconds off his best.

Finally Dave Webster after the birth of Iris and a 12 week taper competed well and we were all entertained by his natural charm.
